General Gymnastic
General Gymnastics describes aspects of gymnastics that are leisure-oriented. It offers a variety of activities suitable for all ages, essentially from the field of gymnastics with or without apparatus. The games or activities are enjoyed by participants for the sake of fun and to maintain or improve physical fitness. Special interest areas have been developed in such areas as Kindergym, Display and Special Needs. State, National and International events and competitions also make up part of General Gymnastics.
STATE EVENTS : Gymfest is a fun participation event for all general gymnasts throughout Victoria, designed for people regardless of age, ability or sex. - Kindergymfest is a special event designed for children under five years of age. - Sight unseen 10 Acitivity Event is a series of gymnastic skills set up in a circuit. - Display Event is for groups with a minimum of ten members performing some form of gymnastic display on a 12 x 12m floor space.
NATIONAL EVENTS : Aussie Gymfest is held every 2 years and incorporates an Opening and Closing ceremony, school display performances and group performances. The performances are made up of dance, gymnastics, tumbling, aerobics or any other type of movement.
INTERNATIONAL EVENTS : World Gymnaestrada is a non-competitive display event conducted over six days including an Opening and Closing Ceremony. The Gymnaestrada also has coaching workshops, technical meetings and forums, trade displays and National Federation evenings. It is held every four years.
GENERAL GYMNASTIC AREAS :
- Kindergym – Active, educational play for children aged between 6 months and 4 years
- Gentle Gym – Gentle movement and exercise for those in their more mature years
- Recreation – Recreational gymnastics for those not wishing to compete, but just to have fun
- Adult Gym – Ever wanted to be able to do a backflip and never thought it was possible? Come along to an adult class and keep fit whilst learning new skills like these
- Performance – Be a part of an exciting, fun and spectacular gymnastics display. Perform at school fetes, sporting events, competitions and promotional events
- Special Needs – A safe but stimulating form of gymnastics for those with more specialised needs.
